ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Officials are considering five different options in the reconstruction of Adams Road near Oakland University in Rochester Hills.
If you live in Rochester Hills, you’ve probably experienced traffic backups in that area. But there’s a chance the stretch between Hamlin Road and Walton Boulevard is going to look much different.
A new study is gathering public comments on five possible design alternatives.
Here are the options:
- Keep it as it is.
- Reconstruct it as a three-lane road with a continuous center left-turn lane.
- Reconstruct it as a three-land road with a continuous center left-turn lane and roundabouts at major intersections.
- Reconstruct it as a five-lane road with two through lanes in each direction and a continuous center left-turn lane.
- Reconstruct it as a four-lane boulevard with a center median.
Many drivers use Adams Road to get to I-75 and M-59. About 21,000 cars use the corridor every day -- a high number for a two-lane road.
Members of the road commission said the goal is to reduce traffic congestion and crashes.
Right now, there’s no projected cost for the project, no engineering plans, and no timeframe. Officials want to hear from the public first.
Public comments will be accepted through Aug. 1, 2024.
