WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A teenager from Canton Township was badly injured when he crashed a speeding watercraft into a ski boat on an Oakland County lake, officials said.

The crash happened at 4:52 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, on Cass Lake in Waterford Township.

Officials said an 18-year-old man from Canton Township was driving a personal watercraft at a high speed when he crashed into a 23-foot ski boat that was pulling someone on an inflatable tube.

When officers arrived, they found the personal watercraft destroyed, and the teenager was in the water. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is stable.

The 18-year-old Dearborn Heights man driving the ski boat was not injured. A passenger had minor injuries but declined treatment.

Officials don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

They continue to investigate.
