Macomb County man accused of killing his mom, leaving brother on life support

24-year-old man charged with first-degree premeditated murder

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Macomb County man is accused of attacking two family members, leaving his mother dead and his brother on life support.

The shooting happened at 4:34 p.m. July 5, 2024, at a home in the 36000 block of Harper Avenue in Clinton Township.

Officials said Corey Deyshaun Cook, 24, of Clinton Township, shot his 49-year-old mother, Yolanda Cook, and his 31-year-old brother in their home.

Corey Cook went to the Clinton Township Police Department after the shooting and told officers that he had shot two people. He was taken into custody, and police found the two family members during a welfare check.

Yolanda Cook was pronounced dead at the home. The brother was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is on life support due to his injuries, police said.

Corey Cook is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two felony firearm violations. The first two charges have a maximum penalty of life in prison, and the felony firearm violations carry two-year mandatory sentences.

He was arraigned Tuesday, July 9, at 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Bond was set at $1 million, cash/surety.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 22.
