Fans of Matheson and “The Bear” already know that the chef is known for his bold flavors, chaotic and artistic plating and his insane sense of humor. In a TV show that has so many different emotions, Matheson’s character, Neil Fak, is one of the bright and funny spots.
It sounds like Matheson will bring his contagious personality to the new menu at Standby, which is primarily known for having delicious cocktails.
Diners can expect coconut shrimp and jerk mayo, mortadella sliders, Alabama barbecue grilled wings and a bunch of different type of taquitos.
I’m not sure about you, but I’ll have one of everything, please!
“I grew up in a border town, and I loved it,” he said in the press release. “I would go over to Buffalo to eat at old diners and hot dog stands or watch punk shows. I believe that Detroit and Buffalo share many similarities: both are quintessentially American, working-class cities renowned for their storied food culture. I have a lot of respect and admiration for cities like that, and I’m excited to add to the fold of what makes Detroit such an iconic city.”
Matheson also shared the news on his Instagram account, writing in all caps, “I’M HERE, WE’RE HERE, LET’S F****** GO.”
With that much excitement for Detroit, you just know the food is going to be top notch.
Standby is in the Belt Alley in downtown Detroit, just next door to the Z Garage. It’s a fun place to hangout and get drinks all year round, but it will be even better with Matheson delivering a fun and inventive menu.
