Community on edge as thieves target homes in Boston Edison District of Detroit

Officials say theives have broken into 12 homes so far

DETROIT – Neighbors are on edge after thieves targeted about a dozen homes in Detroit’s Boston Edison District.

Detroit police confirm “Several breaking-and-entering incidents” in that area over the past few weeks.

One of the homeowners who had a break-in told Local 4 that the robbers sprayed their dogs with mace before ransacking the upstairs.

“What if I came in and he was there,” asked the homeowner, who wanted to remain anonymous. “I don’t know what would have happened. If he’s willing to mace my dog, I don’t know what he’s willing to do to me.”

The homeowner said police told him this was part of a recent trend in the neighborhood.

“Supposedly, he’s done 12 robberies in the last couple weeks,” the homeowner said. “(Police) said he probably come out with more than $70,000 so far and probably stolen $150,000 worth of jewelry according to police.”

Detroit police told Local 4 they are pursuing leads but wouldn’t get into details to protect the investigation’s integrity.

Like many others in the community, the homeowner is determined to have the suspects arrested before they can cause further harm.

“You can’t stop all robberies, but a serial robbery like this, it’s something that should be addressed as he’s a menace to the community,” the homeowner said.

Anyone with information should contact their local police department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
