Officials said Corey Deyshaun Cook, 24, of Clinton Township, shot his 49-year-old mother, Yolanda Cook, and his 31-year-old brother in their home. He reportedly went to police after the shooting and said he was responsible.

Yolanda Cook was pronounced dead at the home. The brother was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed on life support. Authorities said he recently died from his injuries.

Corey Cook was originally charged with first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two felony firearm violations. The attempted murder charge was amended Monday, July 15, to a second charge of first-degree murder after his brother died.

He remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail. A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 22.

If convicted, Cook faces the possibility of life in prison.
