TOLEDO, Ohio – People across Southeast Michigan might hear a sonic boom on Monday afternoon.

The 180th Fighter Wing is going to conduct a functional check flight between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday around Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio.

“Residents across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan may hear a sonic boom once supersonic speeds are reached,” the 180th Fighter Wing posted on Facebook.

Even though the aircraft will likely be checked above an altitude of 30,000 feet, you still might hear the sonic boom.

These check flights are conducted after the aircraft undergoes heavy maintenance. It will be put through strenuous testing and maneuvers to make sure everything is working properly, the post says.

If the aircraft passes the test, it can be put back into the operational rotation.

It’s possible the flight could be delayed or canceled due to weather.
