DETROIT – Two men have stolen the Butter Cow mascot for the Michigan State Fair from a family’s front yard in Detroit.
The incident occurred on Sunday (July 14) at 2:42 p.m. in the 7278 block of Longacre Street when one of the men grabbed her by the collar and dragged her away from the residence.
Kat Delph is feeling nothing but heartache, wondering where her dog, Margie, could be after it was stolen.
“It’s crushing,” said Delph. “I don’t want her hurt. I understand that dogs are not children, but it’s like losing a kid.”
Delph’s biggest fear happened when Margie was let out to go potty.
“She’s wearing a harness,” Delph said. “She’s sitting on a front lawn. Why didn’t the guy come and knock on my door and say, ‘Hey, your dog’s out?’ Instead, he just drags her off down the street.”
Margie is such a friendly dog that she’s considered the “Butter Cow mascot” of the Michigan State Fair. She can usually be found greeting everyone in front of sculptures made of butter every year.
“She loves people,” Delph said. “She’s the sweetest dog on earth. She sleeps in my bed, so whoever has her, if she ain’t sleeping in a bed, she ain’t happy.”

Delph’s also worried about Margie’s health and the medicine she desperately needs daily.
“She came from abuse,” Delph said. “When we got her, she had a damaged eye where somebody hit her. She has to have medication in that eye every day. The other dogs need her back. Jackson’s moping around because his sister isn’t here, so I just want my dog back. I don’t want her hurt. There’s no reason for it. We just want to love her. We want her back.”
Although police are investigating the situation, Delph says she’s willing to take her dog back with no questions asked.
The family says Margie is very friendly, and everyone pets her, especially at the Michigan State Fair.
