Michigan State Police reopen cold case of 19-year-old who vanished during road trip

In 1987 Cassandra Durham called her father and said she was in Michigan

ROSCOMMON, Mich. – Nearly 37 years ago a young woman from Maryland was reported missing after traveling to Michigan with her boyfriend. Michigan State Police have reopened the case.

In August 1987, Cassandra Elizabeth Durham, 19, and her boyfriend left Baltimore, Maryland, to travel to Michigan to visit her boyfriend’s grandparents in the Roscommon, Michigan area.

Police said the two of them were believed to be driving a 1980 Honda Civic station wagon. They drove through Ohio and on the way they stopped at Cedar Point. The boyfriend said the Honda broke down somewhere around Detroit and he bought a new car, an Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The last time Durham’s father heard from her was over the phone. She told him she was staying with her boyfriend’s grandfather near Roscommon.

The boyfriend said they both returned to Maryland. Durham’s father said she never made it home.

Durham has two tattoos on her hip and thigh area, it is unknown which leg. The first tattoo is of her boyfriend’s initials and the second is the initials of her college sorority, the initials are unknown. She was known to have a small, black purse.
