DEARBORN, Mich. – A speeding SUV blew through a red light on Michigan Avenue and killed a woman who was driving a pickup truck, officials said.

The crash happened at 7:59 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street in Dearborn.

Officials said a 26-year-old Taylor woman was speeding east on Michigan Avenue in an SUV. She didn’t stop for the traffic light at Nowlin Street and crashed into a northbound Ford F-150, police said.

The 33-year-old Dearborn woman driving the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the loved ones of the deceased, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating accident,” Dearborn police Cmdr. Timothy McHale said.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is in critical condition.

There weren’t any passengers in either car, police said.

Officials expect the crash scene to be closed for “a significant period” on Friday.

“We thank the community for their patience as we continue to keep the area closed and carry out our investigation into this serious accident,” McHale said.
