2 grizzly bears enter restricted area at Detroit Zoo

Detroit Zoo conducting review of situation

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Detroit Zoo said that nobody was injured when two grizzly bears entered a restricted area.

In a statement shared on social media, the zoo said that at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, two grizzy bears entered an area that was designated only for animal care staff.

The zoo said that there was never a safety threat to guests or the public. Zoo officials worked to “mitigate the situation” and followed safety protocols to make sure the bears and staff were safe.

“The Detroit Zoo is conducting a review of the situation, and we thank our staff for their quick and safe response,” the zoo said in a statement.
