Police search for man accused of shooting, killing Melvindale officer

Suspect to be considered armed, dangerous

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Police are searching for a man accused of shooting and killing a Melvindale police officer.

Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said was shot and killed on Sunday. Investigators have identified Michael Lopez as the suspect.

ATF Detroit released information about Lopez on social media and said he is to be considered armed and dangerous. Officials said Lopez fled the scene of the shooting on a green mountain bike.

Lopez has brown hair, brown eyes, is 6′1′' tall, and weighs 245 pounds, according to ATF Detroit.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 911 or Michigan State Police.

There was a large police presence on Sunday afternoon in the area of Oakwood Boulevard and Dix Road in Melvindale. Michigan State Police, River Rouge police, Lincoln Park police, and Dearborn police were on scene. ATF Detroit is assisting in the investigation.
