The severe weather popping up across Metro Detroit has caused widespread damage.
So far, the eastbound lanes of I-94 at Gratiot Avenue are closed due to flooding caused by severe thunderstorms on Tuesday (July 23).
Officials tell Local 4 that drivers are slowly being moved onto Gratiot Avenue as everyone tries to get off the freeway.
East I-94 and Gratiot Avenue are closed due to flooding in all lanes. Currently, power is out in the area, but work is being done to get secondary power to the pump house at Barnett Avenue.
Flooding has occurred in Center Line on Lawrence Avenue near 11 Mile Road.
We’re told that other streets in the neighborhood have also flooded as drivers are unable to maneuver around, causing officials to block the area off.
Many trees have landed on homes, including one in Madison Heights.
Another tree has fallen on a home on Cynthia Avenue near Milton Avenue, causing minimal damage.
Residents were not at home at the time of the incident, but multiple nearby neighbors are gearing up as a precaution.
