DEARBORN, Mich. – Funeral services are being held Friday for a Melvindale police officer who was shot and killed while on duty.
The officer, Mohamed Said, 26, was shot and killed after pulling over a 44-year-man in Melvindale on Sunday, July 21, 2024, according to police.

The suspected shooter has been identified as Michael Lopez, 44, of Southfield. Police said Lopez was pulled over at 12:34 p.m. on Sunday at a car wash near the area of Oakwood Boulevard and Clarann Street in Melvindale.
Lopez ran from the scene and Said pursued him. Police said Lopez pulled out a handgun and shot Said.
Lopez was arrested on Monday and is facing several charges, including murder. Lopez is also facing charges linked to the robbery of an Auto Zone.
