Winston Kirtley Jr. was arrested shortly after and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, six counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of discharge at a building, and 10 felony firearm violations.

Detroit police Chief James White said Kirtley got upset about the way people had parked their vehicles for a birthday party at the home directly across the street.

39-year-old Toyake Thirkeild and 38-year-old Andre Willis were killed in the shooting.

Exactly two years from the day of the shooting, July 31, 2024, a jury found Kirtley guilty on all counts. He is expected to be sentenced Sept. 4. He faces the possibility of life in prison.
