Community of Hope returns to help Metro Detroit’s unhoused population

Multi-Grammy-nominated artist KEM to headline Concert of Hope

Community of Hope Weekend is returning Aug. 2-4, 2024. (WDIV)

DETROIT – The Community of Hope weekend has returned to Detroit to help raise awareness and support the city’s homeless population.

The event runs from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 2-4. It aims to energize and inspire the community while addressing the challenges faced by unhoused individuals and families while providing support for those in need.

This year, Concert of Hope will be headlined by multi-Grammy-nominated artist KEM. The concert takes place Friday and Saturday at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre. THE S.O.S. Band and Loose Ends featuring Jane Eugene will also be performing. A portion of all ticket sales will go to the Neighborhood Service Organization to benefit Detroit’s unhoused population. The Day of Hope -- a resource fair that provides housing and services to those experiencing homelessness -- will take place at Cass Park on Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will also feature haircuts, record expungement assistance, health screenings, mobile showers supplemental food assistance and more. Fresh produce, toothbrushes and NARCAN kits will also be distributed.

Detroit’s poet laureate, Jessica Care Moore, will perform at Day of Hope, showcasing her jazz/soul/poetry record, “Black Tea,” alongside pianist Jon Dixon and vocalist Ideeyah.
