Man sentenced for murder in Sterling Heights OWI crash that killed teenager

STERLING HEIGHTS – A man involved in a Sterling Heights crash that resulted in the death of a teenage boy has been sentenced to decades behind bars.

The crash happened July 3, 2021. Police 17-year-old Patryk Koziol, 17, was driving west on 18 Mile Road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle in the intersection with Van Dyke Avenue. He was rushed to the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, where he died.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, 41-year-old Robert Zbikowski, was charged with and later convicted of second-degree murder and operating while impaired causing death.

Zbikowski was sentenced Thursday, Aug. 1, to 20-60 years in jail.
