DETROIT – An Oakland County teenager has been charged as an adult in the murder of a 23-year-old.
Detroit police were called around 4:45 p.m. July 13, 2024, to the intersection of Cardoni and Robinwood streets in the city’s Hawthorne Park neighborhood.
When they arrived, officers found Tavita Hunter, 23, of Detroit, lying in the grass with a gunshot wound to her back. Firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene.
Brandon Butler, 17, of Farmington Hills, is accused of firing a handgun at Hunter during an altercation.
Butler fled the scene after shooting Hunter, according to authorities.
He is charged with first-degree murder and a felony firearm violation. He will be tried as an adult, officials said.
Arraignment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at 36th District Court.
