Suspected drunk driver crashes into parked St. Clair Shores police car on I-94

Police officer has been released from hospital

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Two people were injured when a driver crashed into a parked St. Clair Shores police car.

The crash happened at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, in the westbound lanes of I-94 near 10 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.

Michigan State Police said the St. Clair Shores police car was parked on the right shoulder of I-94 while the officer was looking for a reported stolen vehicle when a Buick Envision ran off the road and rear-ended the patrol car.

The Buick stopped on the grass embankment and the patrol car ended up horizontal in the left and center lanes of westbound I-94.

The driver of the Buick and the St. Clair Shores police officer were transported to a hospital and treated. The officer has been released, but the driver of the Buick is still receiving medical treatment.

Michigan State Police said the driver of the Buick was under the influence of alcohol. When the driver is released from the hospital, they will be held at the Macomb County Jail.
