DETROIT – A Detroit police gun that was stolen 10 years ago has resurfaced, as someone tried to sell it to an undercover agent.

Darnell Danner, 40, is accused of dealing firearms without a license and knowingly possessing a stolen gun in a criminal complaint that was filed July 29, 2024.

Officials said Danner sold three guns to an undercover ATF agent in June and July. All three sales took place in Detroit. Danner doesn’t have a license to sell guns.

On June 11, he sold the agent a .40-caliber Glock 22 with eight rounds of ammo, the criminal complaint says.

On July 2, he sold the agent a 9 mm Glock 48 with 10 rounds of ammo, officials said. It had been reported stolen in February 2024.

On July 10, Danner sold the agent a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson MP40 pistol with five rounds of ammo. That gun had been reported stolen in October 2014, when it was a Detroit Police Department-issued firearm, authorities said.

The Smith & Wesson had “Detroit PD” markings on the side and the Detroit police serial number. Scratches and gouges over the markings suggested that someone had tried to remove them.

Since Danner didn’t buy or register the Smith & Wesson, officials believe he knew that it had been stolen.

The complaint concludes that Danner sold guns without a license and knew that he was in possession of a stolen firearm.
