Police seek help identifying 3 people involved in theft of van from Detroit nonprofit

DETROIT – The Detroit Police Department is seeking assistance from the community regarding three people who broke into the locked gate of Mercy Education Project’s parking lot and stole a white 12-passenger Ford Econoline van.

The white 12-passenger Ford Econoline van, with license plate ENZ9723, with Mercy Education Project’s name and blue logo on the doors and rear, was stolen on Monday (Aug. 5) at 12:34 a.m.

Officials say the van is essential to MEP’s operations and is heavily used to transport students to and from classes at MEP and activities held off-site.

Mercy Education Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides educational opportunities, tutoring, life skills development, and enrichment for girls and women in southwest Detroit.

MEP offers GED preparation, adult basic education, and workforce development for low-income women, one-to-one tutoring in reading and math for girls in grades two through 12, STEAM activities, field trips, college and career readiness, and educational summer camps.

All of MEP’s services are provided free of charge, including van transportation from each student’s school to MEP during the school year and transportation to visit colleges and businesses and for off-site learning opportunities throughout the year.
