LIVONIA, Mich. – A Livonia sex offender was caught with 1,715 child porn pictures and 302 videos when police searched his devices.
Brett David Goodreau, 43, of Livonia, is named in a criminal complaint that was filed July 12, 2024.
California search links Livonia man to child porn
The investigation of Goodreau began when the Bakersfield Police Department in California looked into a man for child exploitation in February 2024.
During an interview, the California man told officials that he had chatted with Goodreau about child pornography.
Police searched the man’s cellphone and found a Telegram conversation with Goodreau. The man had sent 10 child porn videos to Goodreau, who replied, “These are my favorites of the bunch.”
Goodreau sent the man three videos of child pornography and then asked, “Have any more like the last three of the ones I said were my favorites?”
Livonia house searched
On March 12, Homeland Security officials searched Goodreau’s house in Livonia.
They found the Telegram app on his iPhone 14, and it included the conversation with the California man.
There were 25 images and 195 videos of child pornography on the phone.
Goodreau interview
Goodreau admitted to Homeland Security agents that he owned an account on a website where child porn could be found.
He gave them his login and they saw that the account had last been accessed on March 4, 2024.
There were 1,690 more child porn pictures and 107 more child porn videos on that account, according to the criminal complaint.
Officials said they also found evidence that Goodreau and an unknown person had exchanged child porn during chat conversations in February 2022 and June 2022.
Previous conviction
Goodreau is registered as a sex offender because of a conviction in March 2003.
A woman saw Goodreau put his hands on the outside of her 5-year-old son’s pants in the groin area, officials said.
Goodreau pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to nine months of confinement and 36 months of probation.
Conclusion
The criminal complaint concludes there is probable cause that Goodreau distributed, received, and possessed child pornography.
