Help Me Hank: Church says new sign denied, despite being smaller, duller than nearby clubs

Detroit church leaders confused about permit decision

DETROIT – This tip came into Help Me Hank this morning and caught my attention.

A church on 8 Mile Road in Detroit wants to update the sign outside. It’s been there for more than 20 years and is outdated.

The church paid a deposit to the sign company, but the permit was denied by the city. Church leaders who look at much larger, brighter signs for nearby gentlemen’s clubs could not understand why their request was denied.

As you can image, it involves charging sign ordinances, so it gets a tad complicated.

I’m talking with church leaders now and have already been in touch with the city building department.

You will see how this all unfolds tonight on Local 4 News at 6 p.m.
