Jackson County officer accused of smuggling drugs into jail

JACKSON, Mich. – A Michigan Department of Corrections officer is facing felony charges after reportedly smuggling drugs into a Jackson County jail.

According to authorities, Officer Joshua Evans was working at Parnall Correctional Facility on July 11 when he was found with a significant amount of a synthetic opioid in the facility’s visiting room. He reportedly had 151 strips of Buprenorphine, also known as Suboxone.

Evans was charged Tuesday, Aug. 6, with one count of delivery/manufacture of schedule 1, 2, and 3 controlled substances and one count of bringing contraband into prisons. If convicted, he faces the possibility of 12 years behind bars.

The investigation is ongoing. Evans is expected to return to court Aug. 16 for a probable cause hearing.
