DEARBORN, Mich. – Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed two people and injured four others in Dearborn.
The crash happened at around 2:08 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, in the area of Michigan Avenue and the Southfield Freeway.
Police said a Dodge Charger with six people inside was speeding eastbound on Michigan Avenue when the driver lost control and struck a tree. The people in the vehicle were all between the ages of 15 and 20 years old.
Two people were killed in the crash and four people were injured.
The driver, an 18-year-old from Dearborn, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A 20-year-old from Garden City was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The other four people were transported to area hospitals to be treated. One person remains in critical condition and the other three have less serious injuries, according to police.
Police have not released the identities of the victims. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Dearborn Police Department at 313-943-2275.
“This is a senseless tragedy and our prayers go out to the families of those involved. As we grieve this tragedy, we urge parents to take the time to talk with young drivers about the importance of safe driving. We need your partnership to help keep this community safe,” Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said.
