The shooting happened just before noon, Saturday, Aug. 10 on Cornell Street, near the intersection of Cherry Hill and Sheldon roads. Police believe Devereaux Christopher Johnson started an argument when he saw Nathan Morris, 35, walking down the street. Johnson reportedly took out a handgun and shot Morris multiple times.

Police said Morris was not armed at the time.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they transported Morris to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police said Johnson barricaded himself inside a home, but officers were able to convince him to surrender.

Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of felony firearm. He was remanded back to jail without bond. His next court date is Aug. 23.

If convicted, Johnson faces the possibility of life behind bars.
