Doctor accused of unwanted sexual advance on 76-year-old woman in Macomb County

Detroit doctor faces 2 misdemeanor charges

Stephen Bruce Mason (Macomb County Prosecutor's Office)

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A doctor is accused of making an unwanted sexual advance on a 76-year-old woman in Macomb County and then performing an inappropriate act after driving her to a hair appointment.

Officials said Stephen Bruce Mason, 54, of Detroit, befriended the woman online. On Aug. 1, 2024, he drove her back to her home in Sterling Heights after her hair appointment, prosecutors said.

When the woman invited Mason into her home, he made sexual advances toward her, but she rejected those advances, according to authorities.

Mason is accused of masturbating in front of the woman after being rejected.

He was charged with assault and aggravated indecent exposure. Assault is a 93-day misdemeanor, and aggravated indecent exposure is a two-year high-court misdemeanor.

“Our legal system does not discriminate based on profession or social standing,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “Whether you are a doctor or any other member of the community, the law applies equally to everyone.”

Mason was arraigned Monday, Aug. 12, at Sterling Heights District Court and given a $1,000 personal bond.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 22.
