5 people, dog rescued in Straits of Mackinac boat incident

Five people and a dog were safely rescued after their boat capsized in the Straits of Mackinac.

Their boat was nearly submerged Friday, Aug. 9, near the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

The Coast Guard and Shepler’s Ferry assisted in the rescue -- along with the Mackinac Island Fire Department and Marine Rescue.

Investigators said they were all wearing life jackets and the fast actions of first responders saved their lives.
