ARENAC COUNTY, Mich. – A Michigan man spent six months believing notifications about his $257,000 lottery win were a scam.

A 41-year-old Arenac County man was selected in a random drawing on Feb. 14 and won a $257,631 BIG CA$H Jackpot prize. He had earned entries into that drawing by playing BIG CA$H Second Chance Jackpot games online.

The man said he kept getting calls about his win, but he thought it was all a scam.

“I saw an email back in February informing me that I won a $257,631 second chance prize, but I figured it was just a scam and I deleted the email,” he said. “In addition to the email, I received several calls about the prize over the last few months, but I still thought it was a scam. Recently, I decided to look into it, and when I found out it was a real prize, I was floored.”

He called the Michigan Lottery and found out the prize was legitimate.

“Now that I’m at the lottery office, it’s finally starting to sink in that this is real,” he said. “This prize is going to be life-changing.”

The man visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He chose to remain anonymous.

He said he plans to spend the money on a new home and a new car.
