DETROIT – An investigation is underway after several cars caught fire outside of a post office on Detroit’s east side.
The incident occurred on Thursday (Aug. 15) on Harper Avenue and Woodhall Street.
Officials say about six cars were affected by the fire. Witnesses say someone was seen running away from the scene.
“I got a phone call from him (Postal worker),” said Tiffany Randall. “He’s telling me that he came back to the station because we were both out on our routes. He told me he came back to the station. He said, ‘Your car is on fire.’ And I’m like, ‘What?’ He’s like, ‘Your car is on fire?’ So, I immediately stopped delivering my mail. Came back here, and this is what I saw.”
“They broke the window,” said Corey Nelson. “We don’t know exactly what they used to start the fire, but it was some type of accelerant, you know, to make the flames be like it was, to blow up the car like this.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
