19-year-old man ejected, killed in Oakland County when car hits pole, fire hydrant, tree

Teen ejected from car, officials say

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 19-year-old man was ejected and killed in Oakland County when his car struck a pole, a fire hydrant, and a tree.

The crash happened at 1:18 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, on Franklin Road, at Hughes Avenue, in Pontiac.

Officials said a 2016 Dodge Charger was heading south on Franklin Road when the teenage driver lost control.

The Charger jumped the curb, struck a utility pole, crashed into a fire hydrant, and then ran into a tree, according to police.

Officials said the driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics, but he died from his injuries.

A 20-year-old Pontiac man was riding as a passenger in the car. Police said he was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Officials don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
