Police search for suspect involved in post office arson on Detroit’s east side

Six vehicles damaged outside USPS in Detroit

DETROIT – Police are seeking information regarding a suspected arsonist who set fire to multiple cars at a post office on Detroit’s east side.

According to the Detroit Police Department, on Aug. 15, 2024 around 1:43 p.m., a male suspect walked up to a white 2018 Chevy Traverse in the parking lot of United States Postal Service on Harper Avenue.

He then took an object, threw it at the front passenger side window and broke the glass. He proceeded to pour an accelerant inside of the vehicle and set it on fire.

The suspect is described as a heavy set male. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath, and blue jeans.

Police said six vehicles were damaged and four vehicles were burned as a result of the incident.
