Livingston County sheriff provides high security for Donald Trump campaign event

Trump’s theme was “Make America Safe Again”

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Former President Donald Trump is in Howell to make a case for why Michigan voters should support him.

Trump’s visit is part of a four-day swing through key battleground states. His trip marks the sixth visit to Michigan in 2024, showing just how important Michigan will be in November.

The theme Tuesday (Aug. 20) in Livingston County for his campaign was “Make America Safe Again.”

“When I’m president of the United States, again, we will never even think about or mention the words ‘Defund the police,’ we will never think about that again,” said Trump. “It’s a bad situation.”

People in attendance said Trump’s energy was low on specifics, such as vital issues facing Michigan, Detroit, and the Great Lakes.

What looks like a reboot of the campaign focusing on safety, law & order, and supporting law enforcement as Vice President Kamala Harris has praised defunding the police movements in the past.

“These people protect us, these are unbelievable people who protect us, we have to protect them,” Trump said.

Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murhpy provided an incredible

level of security for Trump’s visit as the event was invite only and inside a sheriff’s structure just weeks after the deadly shoting at Trump’s Butler Pennsylvania rally.

The other focus was illegal immigration and the southern border.

“She’s the president and she want’s to be the President of the United States, she’s vice president, she could do it, she’s in charge of the boarder, she could’ve closed up the boarder, she should have closed it up,” Trump said. “They could’ve told Mexico if you don’t do it we’re not going to have trade.”

The former president’s slogan Make America Safe Again. The latest FBI statistics on crime show that violent crime has decreased by more than 15%.

Michigan’s top law enforcement official, Attorney General Dana Nessel, ripped Trump’s visit and local law enforcement standing with him.

“I think it sends a terrible message, right,” said Nessel. “Hearing somebody who not only was convicted of 34 felonies already, he has multiple other cases that are pending.”
