Westland Police make an arrest in fatal stabbing

Suspect charged with second-degree murder

Westland, Mich. – Westland Police were called to the area of Grand Traverse and Missaukee Court on Sunday, Aug. 18 around 8 p.m.

Police found 58-year-old Donald Soulliere of Westland lying on the ground unconscious but breathing. It was discovered that Soulliere had been stabbed.

Officers began life saving attempts. He was transported to Beaumont Annapolis Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police were able to locate 48-year-old Richard Waltiere Jr. of Westland around 4 a.m. Monday and took him into custody.

He was arraigned Wednesday, Aug. 21 on one count of homicide and second-degree murder. His bond was set at $1,000,000.

Waltiere is due back in court for a probable cause hearing Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. and a preliminary hearing on Sept. 5.
