Dearborn shooting in Benihana parking lot leaves 2 injured

Victims are listed in stable condition

DEARBORN, Mich. – Two people are hospitalized after a non-fatal shooting in the parking lot of Benihana in the Fairlane Town Center.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday (Aug. 21) in the 18601 block of Hubbard Drive.

Officials said when they arrived, they discovered the two victims in what appeared to be a targeted attack, with robbery not believed to be the motive.

“It is an active investigation, so I wanted to show the community that there’s no threat to the community at the moment,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin. “Furthermore, I’ll ask them (Residents) to stay away from the area as we continue our investigation.”

Officials say both victims were shot in the leg, and there were a number of rounds fired. It also appeared that the parties involved may have been firing back and forth as a vehicle was left with bullet holes.

The victims were transported to Corwell Health where they are listed in stable condition.

“Nationally, you have more guns in this country than people, and unfortunately, we’ve seen a lot of violence across the country.

“So I pray for the people out there, and I pray for the officers across the country faced to try to navigate this, but clearly, we’ve got to find a better way to navigate disputes.

“You got an active restaurant, and families are celebrating birthdays and graduations and stuff inside a restaurant, and you have this type of violence outside in the parking lot, and it’s entirely unacceptable.”
