Detroit police engage community with neighborhood strolls during Walk-A-Mile Wednesday

DETROIT – Detroit police were in the community for another edition of Walk-A-Wile Wednesday.

Detroit police Chief James White and the 11th Precinct took a mile-long neighborhood stroll Wednesday (Aug. 21) on Mount Elliott Street on the city’s east side.

The weekly event is a tradition for chief white he says the walks are aimed toward fitness and maintaining the relationship between law enforcement and the community.

“The one thing I want the community to take away from these Walk-A-Mile Wednesdays or bike rides is that we work for them,” said White. “They are who we serve, and we certainly are happy to do it. We’ve got a great police department that worked very hard, and we’re committed to making this community safe, keeping it safe, and doing everything we can to reduce violence in our community.”

This installment was the fourth year for Walk-A-Mile Wednesday.
