31-year-old hit on I-75 while standing outside car in right lane

Driver taken to hospital for treatment

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 31-year-old driver was struck on I-75 while standing outside a car in the right lane.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, on southbound I-75 near Sibley Road in Brownstown Township.

Police said a 31-year-old driver from Detroit got out of a Chevrolet Impala in the right lane of the freeway due to car trouble.

A Ford Focus heading south in the right lane didn’t stop in time and struck the Impala, causing it to hit the driver.

The 31-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No information about that person’s condition was revealed.

The driver of the Focus was not injured.

Police shut down the freeway to investigate the crash, but it has since reopened.

“We want to remind drivers that if you are experiencing car trouble or in a crash, please move the vehicle out of the traffic lane,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “If you cannot move the vehicle, stay in your car with the seatbelt fastened. Call 911 for assistance. Often, people do not realize how fast traffic is moving until it is too late.”
