National Dog Day is Monday, Aug. 26. What better way to celebrate than by showing off your fur babies? (Canva)

National Dog Day is Monday, Aug. 26. It takes place on the anniversary of the day when Colleen Paige’s family adopted their first dog when she was 10.

For the record, the day isn’t just for adopted dogs. All dogs can celebrate, both purebred and mixed.

You can agree, dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and they play so many roles in our lives. Most importantly, they’re our friends who we can cling tight to in a time of need.

How can you celebrate National Dog Day?

To name a few, try growing the family and consider celebrating the day by adopting a dog. The national dog day organization recommends that if you’re buying from a breeder, do some research on their background.

If you don’t wish to adopt, go to a shelter and spend some time there walking or playing with dogs.

You can also check on an elderly or ill friend, or a neighbor who has a dog who you can help.

Maybe it’s hosting a dog party at your house and inviting your friends and all the dogs over to snap selfies and post it to Mipics.
