GRAND TRAVERSE BAY, Mich. – Authorities are reminding residents to drive sober after a pickup ended up in Grand Traverse Bay.
The incident happened Aug. 16 in Omena Village, near the Omena Traverse Yacht Club on Omena Bay. The suspected drunk driver failed to stay on West Bay Shore Drive at a curve along the waterfront and drove into the water, barely missing a dock.
Surveillance footage of the incident can be watched in the video player above.
Two witnesses were captured on camera rushing toward the waterlogged pickup, one can be seen entering the water with their dog.
The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office said paying attention to the road is “of the utmost importance.”
The speed limit posted on the road for that turn is 15 mph.
The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. A report has been forwarded to the Leelanau County Prosecutor.
No injuries were reported.
