Dearborn Fire Department set to get new equipment and training

Part of a $800,000 grant by FEMA

Dearborn Fire Department receives $800,000 in federal dollars for new equipment and training.

DEARBORN, Mich. – For the 10th straight year, Dearborn Fire Department is awarded a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totaling nearly $878,000.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant will fund new equipment and training for the fire department and provide additional essential resources, including physical training and counseling, and new equipment for personnel and public safety.

The fire department competed against thousands of other fire departments nationwide for the grant. The funds from the award will go toward equipment to properly clean and care for personal protection equipment, new portable radios, and specialized training for mass casualty events for fire department personnel.

Additional funds will go toward firefighter survival and self-rescue courses, technical rescue training, physical fitness assessments and counseling, and endurance training tailored for firefighters.

Dearborn Fire Department has applied for and received over $30 million in federal, state, and local grants.
