DETROIT – Former President Donald Trump is campaigning in Detroit as he spoke at the Annual Conference of the National Guard Association at Huntington Place.
Illegal immigration was a hot topic among many Trump spoke about on Monday (Aug. 26) during the address to the National Guard.
But it’s what he said about the correlation between illegal immigrants and crime that some say just isn’t true at all.
“They’re releasing their prisoners into our country,” said Trump. “They’re releasing their guard. You got to see MS-13, the worst gang in the world. MS-13. They’re collecting them and dropping them into the United States. I moved out thousands and thousands of them. They’re moving them into the United States, say coming back.”
“I obviously completely disagree with the president,” said Adonis Flores of Michigan United. “The overwhelming majority of immigrants already here in the country and asylum seekers at the border are families and hardworking people that are just trying to run away from harm. They’re either running away from violence. Violence, political instability, or simply just trying to survive. They’re not. They’re not to get us.”
The campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris responded to Trump’s visit to Detroit, saying, “Trump cannot be trusted to keep us safe, but Vice President Harris is a proven leader on the world stage and will use her expertise to ensure America’s security, defeat our adversaries, and stand with our allies around the world.”
We are 70 days away from the election taking place.
