Neighbors and small businesses are stepping up to help one another during widespread power outages.
Fit Bites in Southgate lost power due to Tuesday’s (Aug. 27) powerful storms.
The owner, Kristen Geldmacher, said this is the third time they’ve lost power this year.
“Any small business owner, if they’ve ever come across the feeling of having a huge loss, there’s just like this pit in your stomach from how are we going to recover from this,” Geldmacher said.
Without power, the farm fresh prepared meals they sell would have to be thrown out.
Before clearing her inventory, Geldmacher posted to social media asking for help.
B.C.’s Pizza in Lincoln Park answered her call for help, offering their fridge and freezer space.
Geldmacher moved hundreds of meals to B.C.’s so they wouldn’t spoil.
“It just really gives you a lot of hope,” Geldmacher said about the kind gesture.
In Commerce Township, there was another example of neighbors helping one another.
PJ Kee decided to split his generator with his neighbor so they could both keep their fridges running.
“It’s a good neighbor (and) they’d do it for me,” Kee said. “Everybody needs help at times like these.”
