Monroe County warns residents of phone scam impersonating sheriff’s office

Scam caller issues fake $45K bond for missed court date

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is warning the community about a phone scam in which the caller identifies as a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office member.

Goodnough says the scammer accuses the recipient of missing their court date and issues a bench warrant for their arrest with a $45,000 bond.

Goodnough wants the community to know that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office never contacted a citizen via phone or social media concerning a missed court date.

If you provided the caller with sensitive banking or personal information, you are asked to contact Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070 to file a report or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
