Man’s remains recovered from Lake Huron plane crash 17 years later
Searchers discovered a small plane that crashed in Michigan’s Lake Huron 17 years ago, as well as the remains of a long-missing passenger, state police said Wednesday.
The remains were identified as H. Brooke Stauffer Jr., 56, who lived in Washington, D.C. He was a passenger in a plane that had departed Mackinac Island for a small town in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula in August 2007.

The parents of a Grosse Pointe teen killed in a high-speed crash are asking Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to charge the mother of the young man who was driving.
“This wasn’t an accident; this was an eventuality; it was a spinning wheel where Flynn’s number came up because the only one with the knowledge and authority to stop them was the mother, and she didn’t,” said Flynn MacKrell’s dad, Thad MacKrell.
