OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A jury found a man guilty of second-degree murder in a shooting that stemmed from someone spitting in a sink, prosecutors said.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at an apartment building in the 200 block of Carriage Circle Drive in Pontiac. Prosecutors said Sadarie Deshawn Donalson and Dewaun Demarco Benion were at a party at an apartment when Donalson got into an argument with Cornelius James Jones.

The argument was sparked by Jones calling Donalson “disrespectful” for spitting in a sink, according to officials. They argued and Jones told both men to leave. Prosecutors said Benion started a physical fight with Jones that ended with Donalson shooting Jones twice, killing him.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, an Oakland County jury found Donalson guilty on charges including second-degree murder, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Donalson’s sentencing hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2024. He faces a life sentence.

Benion previously pled no contest to assault with intent to do great bodily harm. He was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for 169 days served.
