AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A man and two pets were rescued from a burning apartment building in Auburn Hills.

The Auburn Hills Fire Department responded to reports of an apartment fire at 7:47 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, in the 2600 block of Lantern Lane.

Firefighters and police forced the door to the unit on the second story that was on fire and could hear a man trying to escape. There was heavy smoke caused by the fire, so they told the man to return to his room and open a window. A ladder was used to rescue the man, who was then transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital.

While firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, police evacuated residents in nearby apartments. Firefighters rescued two pets, a dog and a cat. Both pets were returned to their owners in good health.

No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
