Convicted felon arrested for possession of stolen weapon in Royal Oak Township

Second person arrested for furnishing false information and open intoxicants

Michigan State Police arrested a convicted felon for possession of a stolen gun and other charges in Royal Oak.

According to police, on Sunday around 2:50 a.m., troopers stopped a vehicle on Wyoming Avenue in the Charter Township of Royal Oak for a seat belt violation and illegal window tint.

When troopers approached the car, the driver, a 28-year-old male from Ferndale, exited his vehicle. One of the troopers saw a pistol on the driver’s floorboard. The driver and four passengers were detained.

During a search of the vehicle, open intoxicants were also found. The driver admitted to being a convicted felon, and it was also determined that the gun was stolen.

The driver was arrested for having the stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and driving with a suspended license.

One of the passengers was also arrested for false information and open intoxicants. The other passengers were released on the scene. Prosecutors are reviewing the investigation.
