DETROIT – A Downtown Detroit restaurant has closed its doors after serving as an anchor in one of the city’s best-known buildings.
Maru Sushi, located at 160 Fort Street inside the Federal Reserve Building in Downtown Detroit, has closed, as of Sept. 1, according to a message posted on their website.

Maru first opened in 2016.
In the closing message, Maru said they are planning to open a new location in Brighton in 2025. They already have restaurants open in East Lansing, Kalamazoo, Midland and Grand Rapids.
Maru was started by sushi chef and restauranter Robert Song.

The vacancy leaves a prime real estate space inside the historic Detroit building, which was bought by Bedrock in 2012.
