Detroit man faces charges for allegedly stealing mail from Fraser post office

Davin Lawrence, 28, from Detroit, was charged in connection with stealing mail from a post office.

Officials say the alleged incident occurred on Monday (Sept. 2), when Fraser police officers caught Lawrence opening a mail depository mailbox at the Fraser Post Office.

After Lawrence opened the mailbox, police attempted to take him into custody, but the 28-year-old fled on foot. He was later located and arrested without incident.

Lawrence was charged with assaulting, resisting, and obstructing a police officer, a two-year felony, and 16 counts of mail theft, a one-year misdemeanor.

Officials say he is a habitual fourth offender. He was charged in 39th Fraser District Court, where the bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. and a preliminary exam is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
