MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A jury has found a Sterling Heights man guilty of murder in the 2021 death of his girlfriend.
After a 10-day trial, Jason Ross was convicted Wednesday, Sept. 4, of first-degree murder, larceny from a building, unlawful driving away a motor vehicle and stealing a transaction device without consent.

According to authorities, Ross killed Kathleen Hales by stabbing her multiple times and beating her with a hammer in their Sterling Heights home. He reportedly hid the body and left with her credit cards, prescription drugs and car.
Police found Ross in Prescott, roughly 50 miles north of Saginaw, with one of the murder weapons and Hales’ belongings.
Ross will be sentenced Oct. 10. He faces possible life in prison.
